Lobs Hole Ice Plants — Snowy 2.0
Two ice plants, 40 tonnes of ice per day each (80 tonnes per day in total), being installed for concrete cooling at Snowy 2.0's Lobs Hole site for Future Generation Joint Venture.
Project Overview

The Challenge
Mass concrete on Snowy 2.0 has to be placed cool: cement releases heat as it hydrates, and in large pours that heat can cause thermal cracking. Replacing part of the mixing water with ice lowers the temperature of fresh concrete. Lobs Hole is the project's main construction site, inside Kosciuszko National Park, so the plant has to be installed around a remote mountain worksite: access, logistics, weather and the construction programme. The works are for Future Generation Joint Venture (FGJV), the Webuild, Clough and Lane joint venture building Snowy 2.0 for Snowy Hydro.
Execution & Delivery
Goldman Plumbing Services is installing two ice plants at Lobs Hole, each producing 40 tonnes of ice per day, for 80 tonnes of ice per day in total. The project builds on Goldman's earlier work at the same site, where Goldman installed and commissioned the combined hot and chilled process water plant for the tunnelling grout plant, delivering 15 °C process water. It is part of Goldman's concrete cooling and ice plant service for infrastructure projects across NSW, VIC, QLD and SA.
