Commercial and industrial heat pumps are electric air-to-water plant that heat, and in reversible units cool, buildings and processes by moving heat rather than burning fuel. Goldman Plumbing designs, installs, commissions and services heat pump plant for hydronic heating, chilled water and process applications on commercial, industrial and healthcare sites across NSW, VIC, QLD and SA.

What do commercial heat pumps do?

An air-to-water heat pump extracts heat from outside air and transfers it into a closed water loop that serves radiators, fan coils, air handling units or a process. Reversible units can also produce chilled water for cooling. Heat pump plant can be integrated with existing HVAC equipment, boilers and building management systems, so it works as part of the whole mechanical installation rather than as a stand-alone unit.

How is this different from hot water heat pumps?

Our Hot Water Heat Pumps service covers domestic hot water for showers, basins and kitchens. This service covers heat pumps used for space heating, cooling and process water through a hydronic loop. The two are often designed together, and Goldman delivers both.

Can a gas boiler system be converted to heat pumps?

Electrification usually starts with heat pumps taking over the base heating load, with existing gas boilers kept for backup or peak demand until the site is ready to go fully electric. Converting a site means checking electrical capacity, plant space, pipework and controls, then staging the changeover so the building stays in service.

How are heat pump systems designed and installed?

Goldman's in-house engineers size the plant to the building's heating and cooling loads and design the hydraulic and controls arrangement. Our teams then install the heat pumps, vibration isolation, insulated pipework, valves, switchboards and submains, control panels and field sensors, before pressure testing, flushing, commissioning and operator handover.

What heat pump plant has Goldman delivered?

At Stawell Sports & Aquatic Centre in Victoria, Goldman installed dedicated pool and spa inverter heat pumps with insulated pipework, a new distribution board and Modbus and BACnet field integration, retaining the gas boilers for backup and peak load. For Byron Shire Council at Mullumbimby, Goldman is installing four inverter heat pumps in a cascaded duty arrangement with a new switchboard and custom control panel.

On the Snowy 2.0 project, Goldman installed and commissioned a skid-mounted combined chiller and heat-pump plant (60 kW unit, 50 kW chilled output) with a 1,000 L stainless storage tank and PLC/HMI controls, delivering 15 °C process water to the Lobs Hole grout plant. Goldman's heat pump experience also includes six 50 kW heat pumps at the Goldsborough building in Darling Harbour.

Do you service heat pump plant?

Yes. Goldman services and troubleshoots heat pump plant alongside the hydronic systems it serves, checking operation, controls and the wider system so performance is maintained over the life of the equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a commercial heat pump used for?
Commercial and industrial heat pumps are electric air-to-water plant that produce heating water, and in reversible units chilled water, for hydronic systems, fan coils, air handling plant and process loads. They replace or supplement gas boilers and can be integrated with existing HVAC plant and building management systems.
How is this different from a hot water heat pump?
Hot water heat pumps heat domestic hot water for showers, basins and kitchens. Commercial and industrial heat pumps heat and cool the building or a process through a closed hydronic loop. Goldman delivers both; see our Hot Water Heat Pumps service for domestic hot water.
Can an existing gas boiler system be converted to heat pumps?
Often, yes. Many sites keep the existing boilers for backup and peak load while heat pumps carry the base load. At Stawell Sports & Aquatic Centre, Goldman integrated new heat pumps with the existing plant and retained the gas boilers for backup.
Does Goldman design heat pump systems or only install them?
Both. Goldman's in-house engineers can size and design heat pump plant, and our teams install the hydraulic, electrical and controls works, then test, commission and hand the system over to operators.
Where does Goldman install commercial heat pumps?
Goldman works on commercial, industrial, healthcare and government sites across NSW, VIC, QLD and SA, with recent heat pump plant in Stawell (VIC), Mullumbimby (NSW) and on the Snowy 2.0 project.
