Chillers
Chiller removal, installation, replacement and integration for commercial, healthcare and industrial sites, including staged changeovers in occupied hospital plant rooms.

Chiller installation and replacement is the removal, rigging, connection and commissioning of the plant that produces chilled water for air conditioning and process cooling. Goldman Plumbing installs, replaces and integrates chillers for commercial, healthcare and industrial sites across NSW, VIC, QLD and SA, including staged changeovers in occupied hospital plant rooms.
When does a chiller need replacing?
Replacement is usually triggered by failure, repeated breakdowns, ageing plant that no longer meets the building's load, or the loss of redundancy when one machine in a multi-chiller plant is out of service. For critical facilities such as hospitals, losing redundancy is itself a risk, so replacement is planned before a second failure leaves clinical areas without cooling.
How is a chiller replaced in a live building?
Live-site replacement depends on planning. Temporary hire chillers can be connected to carry the load, isolations are staged so only part of the plant is out of service at any time, and craning and rigging are scheduled around building operations. Goldman can manage these works as principal contractor, coordinating site safety, access and shutdowns with the facility team.
What does a chiller replacement include?
A full replacement can cover demolition and disposal of the old machines and redundant services, certified refrigerant recovery, rigging and installation of the new chillers, chilled-water and condenser-water pipework, valves, flexible connections and insulation, electrical works including MCC and distribution boards, BMS field installation, seismic and vibration isolation, water treatment and flushing, and commissioning, balancing and testing.
What chiller projects has Goldman delivered?
At Westmead Hospital, Goldman replaced two failed water-cooled chillers in the central cooling plant as principal contractor on a live hospital site. The works included refrigerant recovery, two new water-cooled centrifugal chillers of approximately 3,300 kW each, 316 stainless-steel chilled and condenser water pipework, electrical and BMS field works, vibration isolation, water treatment and a temporary hire chiller during the works. Cooling and redundancy were restored to critical clinical areas with minimal disruption.
Do you deliver process cooling for industry?
Yes. Chilled water is also used for industrial and infrastructure processes. On Snowy 2.0, Goldman installed and commissioned a skid-mounted combined chiller and heat-pump plant with PLC/HMI controls, delivering 15 °C process water to the Lobs Hole grout plant, and is currently delivering concrete-cooling works on the project.
