New sanitary drainage cut into a self-supporting ground-floor slab to service a new PET scanning facility in a live hospital.
Project Overview

Background & Context
Goldman Plumbing installed a new plumbing and drainage system for all utilities and equipment at the Sydney Adventist Hospitals new PET scan facility.
The Engineering Challenge
A unique challenge of this project was the excavation of the ground floor concrete slab for the installation of sewer drainage.
Structured Delivery Approach
Although the concrete slab is laid on fill it was designed to be totally self-supporting. It was a requirement for the slab to be scanned and cut out in a grid of small squares. Each square of the 300mm thick slab was inspected to ensure the integrity of the concrete slab was not compromised before cutting and removing the next.
